Ram rotary shifter stuck in park.

An issue today for my wife. She could not get the shifter to move from park to reverse. Parking brake released, foot on brake… nothing. I hopped in turned key off and back on, shifter still would not move. Playing with the knob I just happened to slightly push down and the rotary shifter then moved out of park and into reverse.My Laramie was built in May 2016 so it's operation is different from what I have read in other recent threads.
